Materials:

  • Tissue paper in various shades of pink, white, and red
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or pen
  • Ruler or straight edge
  • Floral wire or pipe cleaners
  • Hot glue gun or craft glue (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the tissue paper: Cut the tissue paper into squares, about 3-4 inches in size. You'll need about 6-8 squares for each flower.
  2. Fold the tissue paper: Stack the tissue paper squares on top of each other and fold them in half diagonally. Fold in half diagonally again.
  3. Cut the petals: Using scissors, round off the open edges of the folded tissue paper to create petals. You can also cut small slits or fringes along the edges for a more detailed look.
  4. Unfold the petals: Carefully unfold the tissue paper to reveal the petals.
  5. Create the centre: Cut a small piece of yellow tissue paper and fringe the edges. Roll it up tightly to create the centre of the flower.
  6. Assemble the flower: Apply a small amount of glue to the centre of the petals and press the yellow centre into place.
  7. Attach the stem: Wrap a piece of floral wire or pipe cleaner around the base of the flower to create a stem. Secure with glue if needed.
  8. Fluff the petals: Gently separate and fluff the petals to give the flower a more realistic look.

Tips:

  • Vary the size and shape of the petals for a more natural look.
  • Use different shades of pink and white tissue paper to create depth and dimension.
  • Add a touch of glitter or shimmer to the petals for extra sparkle.
  • Experiment with different ways to create the centre of the flower. You can use small pom-poms, beads, or even cotton balls.
  • Use your finished cherry blossoms to decorate your home for Chinese New Year. You can hang them from the ceiling, string them together to make a garland, or use them to embellish gifts and cards.

Additional Ideas:

  • Create a cherry blossom branch by attaching several flowers to a twig or branch.
  • Make a cherry blossom wreath by attaching flowers to a circular base.
  • Use your cherry blossoms to decorate a Chinese New Year lantern.
  • Incorporate cherry blossoms into your Chinese New Year table setting.

With a little creativity, you can use tissue paper cherry blossoms to add a touch of spring and beauty to your Chinese New Year celebrations.
