Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the onion, garlic, and ginger and cook until softened.
- Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the pot and cook until thickened.
- Stir in the sesame oil and green onions.
- Serve immediately.
Tips:
- For a richer flavour, use chicken broth instead of water.
- For a spicier dish, add more red pepper flakes.
- To make this dish ahead of time, cook the tofu and sauce separately. Then, when you are ready to serve, combine the two and heat through.
