Moonflower Memory Mobiles

Moonflower Memory Mobiles: Capturing Dreams Under the Night Sky

Moonflower Memory Mobiles are ethereal mobiles crafted with moonflower blossoms. These delicate white flowers, which unfurl their beauty under the cloak of night, symbolise dreams, memories, and the subconscious mind. Stringing these fragrant blooms onto a mobile allows you to preserve cherished memories in a visually stunning and subtly scented way. As the mobile gently sways, the moonflowers seem to glow softly in the moonlight, imbuing the space with a peaceful and dreamlike atmosphere.

Materials:

  • Dried moonflower blossoms: Select whole, flat moonflower blossoms that are completely dry and retain their delicate shape. You can dry your own moonflowers or purchase them from herb shops or online retailers specialising in botanical crafts.
  • Mobile frame: Choose a lightweight mobile frame made of bamboo, wood, or wire. Consider the size and number of moonflowers you plan to use when selecting a frame.
  • Thread or thin fishing line: Clear thread or fishing line is ideal for suspending the moonflowers without detracting from their beauty.
  • Scissors: Sharp scissors are necessary for cutting thread and trimming moonflowers if needed.
  • Optional embellishments: Small beads, feathers, or other lightweight decorative elements can add a personalised touch to your mobile.
  • Essential oil (optional): A few drops of a calming essential oil like lavender or chamomile can be used to lightly scent the mobile flowers.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the moonflowers: If the moonflowers are not perfectly flat, gently press them between the pages of a heavy book for a few days to achieve a uniform shape.
  2. Thread the moonflowers: Cut a length of thread or fishing line and carefully thread it through the base of a moonflower blossom. Secure the thread by tying a small knot close to the flower. Repeat this process for each moonflower you plan to use.
  3. Attaching to the frame: Tie the other end of the thread to a hook or loop on the mobile frame. Space the moonflowers evenly around the frame, creating a balanced design. You can adjust the length of the threads to create different tiers within the mobile.
  4. Optional embellishments: If using beads or feathers, thread them onto separate strands and attach them to the mobile frame alongside the moonflowers.
  5. Scenting (optional): Dilute a few drops of essential oil with a carrier oil like jojoba oil. Using a cotton swab, gently dab a tiny amount of the diluted oil onto the backs of the moonflower blossoms. Allow them to dry completely before hanging the mobile.

Tips:

  • Moonflower selection: Choose moonflowers that are similar in size for a more cohesive look. If some flowers have slight tears or imperfections, you can creatively position them to minimise their visibility.
  • Drying technique: If drying your own moonflowers, hang them upside down in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade their colour.
  • Night-blooming beauty: Since moonflowers bloom at night, consider placing your mobile near a window where it can receive moonlight and cast soft shadows on your walls.
  • Fragrance refresh: The essential oil scent will gradually fade over time. You can refresh it occasionally by repeating step 5, using minimal amounts of oil.

Moonflower Memory Mobiles are more than just decorative pieces; they are sentimental treasures that capture preci
