Air-Fried Egg Rolls

Air-Fried Egg Rolls

Air-Fried Egg Rolls: A Healthier Twist on a Classic

Traditional egg rolls are often deep-fried, but this air-fried version offers a healthier alternative without sacrificing flavour or texture. These crispy, golden-brown rolls are filled with a savoury mixture of vegetables and can be enjoyed as an appetiser or snack.

Ingredients:

For the Wrappers:

  • 1 package spring roll wrappers

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

Preparing the Filling:

  1. Sauté Vegetables: Heat a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add a little oil and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add Vegetables: Add the cabbage, carrots, and green onions to the pan. Stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  3. Season the Filling: Season the vegetables with soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper.

Assembling the Egg Rolls:

  1. Place Filling on Wrapper: Lay a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the centre of the wrapper.
  2. Fold and Roll: Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides. Roll the wrapper tightly, tucking in the ends as you go.
  3. Seal the Roll: Moisten the edge of the wrapper with a little water to seal it.

Air-Frying the Egg Rolls:

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
  2. Air Fry: Place the egg rolls in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Serve: Serve the air-fried egg rolls hot with your favourite dipping sauce, such as sweet chilli sauce or soy sauce.

Nutrition Information and Tips:

  • Healthier Alternative: Air-frying significantly reduces the amount of oil used compared to deep-frying.
  • Customisable Filling: You can customise the filling with your favourite vegetables, such as mushrooms, bell peppers, or water chestnuts.
  • Dipping Sauces: Experiment with different dipping sauces, such as a creamy peanut sauce or a tangy plum sauce.
  • Reheating: To reheat leftover egg rolls, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until heated through.

Enjoy these crispy and delicious air-fried egg rolls as a healthier and guilt-free option for your Chinese New Year celebration.
