Flower Girl Posy

 

Materials:

Fresh flowers (choose a mix of blooms that are in season for your wedding):

Sweet pink flowers (2-3 stems): Roses (spray roses or David Austin roses), Peonies (blush or light pink), Sweet peas, Lisianthus

Mixed ivory flowers (2-3 stems): Garden roses (ivory or cream), Hydrangeas (ivory or white), Freesia, Wax-flowers

Floral foam (small brick size)

Floral tape (green)

Scissors

Ribbon (matching the pink flowers)

Decorative greenery (optional): Dusty miller, Eucalyptus, Maidenhair fern

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Flowers:
• Cut the flower stems diagonally with sharp scissors, leaving about 3-4 inches long.
• Remove any excess leaves from the lower half of the stems.
2. Soak the Floral Foam:
• Fill a container with cool water. Submerge the floral foam completely and let it soak for a few minutes until fully saturated.
3. Assemble the Posy:
• Cut the soaked floral foam to fit comfortably in your hand.
• Starting with the pink flowers, gently insert the stems into the foam, creating a rounded shape. Distribute the flowers evenly and alternate the flower types.
• Add the ivory flowers next, filling in any gaps and continuing to create a rounded form.
4. Secure the Posy:
• Wrap the floral tape securely around the base of the floral foam, covering the stems and securing the flowers in place.
5. Finishing Touches:
• (Optional) Add a few sprigs of decorative greenery for texture and a touch of green.
• Cut a length of ribbon long enough to tie a bow around the base of the posy. Wrap the ribbon and tie a neat bow.

Tips:

• If the flowers are wilting slightly, you can revive them by placing the stems in cool water for an hour before assembling the posy.
• You can customise this design by using different shades of pink and ivory flowers, or even adding small accent flowers in a contrasting colour.
• For a longer-lasting posy, consider using a combination of fresh and artificial flowers.
• Practice wrapping the floral tape before starting the assembly to ensure a neat and secure finish.
