Materials:
Watering can (galvanised metal, vintage style, or any decorative can)
Floral foam (small brick size)
Knife
Scissors
Selection of fresh flowers (choose a mix of colours and textures based on Mom's preference or what's in season):
Main flowers (3-4 stems): Peonies, Roses (garden or spray roses), Hydrangeas (large blooms)
Filler flowers (2-3 bunches): Baby's breath, Wax-flowers, Freesia
Greenery (optional): Dusty miller, Eucalyptus, Ferns (maidenhair or leatherleaf)
Ribbon (optional, for decoration)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Watering Can:
- Ensure the watering can is clean and dry.
- If using a new floral foam, cut it to fit snugly inside the watering can.
- Soak the Floral Foam:
- Fill a container with cool water. Submerge the floral foam completely and let it soak for a few minutes until fully saturated.
- Assemble the Bouquet:
- Place the soaked floral foam inside the watering can.
- Start with the main flowers. Cut the stems diagonally with sharp scissors, leaving about 3-4 inches long.
- Gently insert the flower stems into the floral foam, creating a rounded shape within the watering can. Arrange the flowers so they cascade slightly over the rim.
- Add the filler flowers next, filling in any gaps and adding texture and colour to the arrangement.
- (Optional) Include a few sprigs of greenery for a touch of natural beauty.
- Finishing Touches:
- Secure the arrangement by pushing the stems further into the floral foam if needed.
- (Optional) Tie a ribbon around the base of the watering can handle for a decorative touch.
Tips:
- Choose flowers that are in season and have strong stems to last longer.
- If the flowers are wilting slightly, you can revive them by placing the stems in cool water for an hour before assembling the bouquet.
- Consider Mom's favourite colours and flower types when selecting blooms for the arrangement.
- To extend the life of the bouquet, keep the floral foam moist by carefully adding water to the watering can every few days.
This Mother's Day bouquet is sure to bring a smile to Mom's face!
