+-----------------------+ <-- Base Bottom (Flat Bottom Disk)
1. Front Body Panel (1 Piece)
- Drafting Box: Rectangle measuring 20.5 cm wide $\times$ 32 cm high.
- Markings:
- Divide height into 3 vertical bamboo segments: Top (10 cm), Middle (11 cm), Bottom (11 cm).
- Draw horizontal placement lines across the width at these division points for the joint rings.
2. Back Body Panel (1 Piece)
- Draft identically to the Front Body Panel (20.5 cm wide $\times$ 32 cm high).
3. Top Crown Disk & Bottom Base Disk (2 Pieces)
- Drafting: Draw two circles with a 6.5 cm diameter (plus 0.6 cm seam allowance around the circumference approx. 7.7 cm total diameter).
- Label one as Crown (Top) and one as Base (Bottom).
4. Bamboo Joint Accent Rings (2 Strips)
- Draft rectangles measuring 21.5 cm long times 1.5 cm wide out of dark green felt (no seam allowance needed as felt doesn't fray).
5. Mouthpiece & Sound Holes Appliqués (4 Felt Circles)
- Mouthpiece (Blow Hole): Oval measuring 3 cm times 2 cm (Beige felt).
- Finger Sound Holes (3 Pieces): Circles measuring 1.5 cm diameter (Dark Green or Black felt).
Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Prepare & Embroider the Front Panel
- Face Details: On the top segment of the Front Body Panel, stitch the eyes and smile using a stem stitch or satin stitch with dark brown embroidery floss.
- Mouthpiece: Stitch the beige oval felt piece just above the face/eyes using a whipstitch or blanket stitch.
- Finger Holes: Position the 3 small felt sound hole circles vertically spaced evenly down the middle and lower segments of the Front Body Panel. Edgestitch or blanket stitch them into place.
Step 2: Attach Bamboo Joint Rings
- Pin the dark green felt joint strips horizontally along the marked segment lines on both the Front and Back Body Panels.
- Straight stitch along both long edges of each felt strip to secure them. This creates the raised bamboo node effect.
Step 3: Stitch Body Cylinder
- Fold the Front and Back Body Panels right sides together, aligning long side edges.
- Pin along both vertical side seams.
- Stitch down both sides using a 0.6 cm (1/4") seam allowance, leaving a 5 cm opening unstitched on the back seam for turning and stuffing.
Step 4: Attach Top Crown & Bottom Base
- Pin the Crown Disk to the top open circle of the body tube, right sides together, matching raw edges evenly around the circle.
- Stitch in the round around the top edge.
- Repeat the process pinning and stitching the Base Disk to the bottom open end of the body tube.
Step 5: Turn, Stuff, and Close
- Turn the plush toy right-side out through the 5 cm back opening using a blunt turning tool or chopstick to push out the edges of the top and bottom disks.
- Fill firm with polyester fibrefill, ensuring the plush holds a neat cylindrical bamboo stalk shape.
- Fold in the raw edges of the opening by 0.6 cm and close with a neat Ladder Stitch (Blind Stitch) by hand.
Finishing Tips
- Node Indentation (Dimensional Effect): Use a hand sewing needle and strong thread to wrap around the joint rings, pulling taut and taking a small hidden stitch through the plush body to pinch the bamboo nodes inward for a realistic segmented look.
- Cheek Blushes: Apply a tiny amount of pink fabric pastel or cosmetic blush below the embroidered eyes using a cotton swab to give the character an inviting expression.
- Crisp Edges: Press seams lightly with an iron on a low temperature setting (use a press cloth if using velvet or synthetic fabrics) before stuffing to maintain clean lines.
