This dish is a perfect appetiser for Chinese New Year, combining the satisfying crunch of air-fried tofu with the sweet and spicy flavours of chilli sauce. It's a healthier alternative to deep-fried tofu and is packed with protein.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

For the Sweet Chilli Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup chilli garlic sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions:

Preparing the Tofu:

  1. Dredge the Tofu: In a shallow dish, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge the tofu cubes in the mixture, coating them evenly.

Air-Frying the Tofu:

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Air Fry the Tofu: Place the tofu cubes in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Making the Sweet Chilli Sauce:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the chilli garlic sauce, honey, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

Serving:

  1. Serve: Serve the crispy tofu hot with the sweet chilli sauce.
