DIY Fairy Light Floral Crown

Fairy Light Floral Crown

Materials:

Artificial flowers or dried flowers (choose a variety of colours and sizes)

Floral wire (thin and thick gauges)

Wire cutters

Battery-operated fairy lights (warm white or coloured lights look beautiful)

Ribbon (optional, for tying the crown)

Scissors (optional, for flowers)

Floral tape (optional, for extra security)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Flowers (Optional): If using artificial flowers, you may need to trim the stems with scissors to a manageable length. Dried flowers can be left as is or trimmed slightly if desired.
  2. Measure Your Head: Use a flexible measuring tape to measure the circumference of your head. Add a few inches to this measurement to allow for tying or adjusting the crown size. Cut a length of thick floral wire to this measurement.
  3. Shape the Wire Base: Bend the floral wire into a circular shape to fit your head size. Create small loops at each end for tying or attaching the ribbon later.
  4. Attach the Flowers: Cut small pieces of thin floral wire. Wrap one end of the wire around the stem of a flower and twist the excess wire to create a small hook. Find a spot on the base wire wreath where you want the flower and gently push the hook into the wire. Wrap the remaining floral wire around the base wire to secure the flower in place. Repeat this process for all the flowers, working your way around the wreath and distributing the flowers evenly.
  5. Weave the Fairy Lights: Carefully uncoil the fairy lights and begin weaving them through the base wire and flowers. Try to tuck the light strand in between the flowers and the base wire for a more concealed look. You can also wind the lights around some of the flower stems for added sparkle.
  6. Secure the Lights (Optional): If desired, use small pieces of floral tape to secure the fairy light strand in specific locations, particularly at the beginning and end of the weaving.
  7. Finishing Touches: Once all the flowers and lights are attached, adjust the placement as needed. You can add more flowers or lights if desired.
  8. Tie the Ribbon (Optional): If you want a ribbon tie at the back, thread the ribbon through the loops you created at the ends of the base wire and tie a bow to secure the crown.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of flower colours, shapes, and sizes to create a visually interesting crown.
  • Consider using artificial flowers with built-in bendable stems for easier weaving with the fairy lights.
  • Work with the fairy lights gently to avoid damaging the bulbs.
  • Ensure the battery pack of the fairy lights is easily accessible for turning them on and off.
  • You can use different coloured fairy lights to create a specific mood or match your outfit.
  • For a more secure fit, you can hot glue the flowers directly to the base wire, but be mindful of using minimal glue to avoid damaging the flowers.
  • This crown is perfect for nighttime gatherings, festivals, or simply adding a touch of whimsy to your day.

With a little creativity, you can create a unique and enchanting fairy light floral crown that will light up the night and turn heads wherever you go!
