Materials:
Picture frame (wood, metal, or plastic all work!)
Selection of dried flowers:
Strawflowers (various colours)
Lady's mantle (dried leaves)
Baby's breath (white)
Goldenrod (yellow)
Achillea (white or yellow)
Other dried flowers in complementary colours (optional)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Ribbon in a colour that complements the dried flowers
- (Optional) Spray paint for the frame (if you want to change the colour)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Frame (Optional): If you want to change the colour of the frame, choose a spray paint that complements the dried flowers you've selected. Paint the frame in a well-ventilated area, following the instructions on the spray paint can. Let the paint dry completely.
- Arrange the Flowers: Lay out your dried flowers on a flat surface to visualise your design. Experiment with different combinations and placements until you find an arrangement you like. Consider colour balance, texture, and overall shape.
- Attach the Flowers: Using a hot glue gun, carefully add a small dab of glue to the base of each flower stem or leaf. Immediately press the flower onto the desired location on the picture frame. Hold it for a few seconds to ensure a secure bond.
- Build Dimension: Start with larger flowers like strawflowers or goldenrod in the back for a base layer. Layer smaller flowers and greenery like baby's breath and lady's mantle in front for added texture and detail.
- Tie the Ribbon: Cut a length of ribbon that's long enough to tie a bow and have some trailing ends. Find a spot on the frame that complements your flower arrangement and tie the ribbon into a bow. You can secure the bow with a dab of hot glue if needed.
Tips:
- Use a variety of dried flowers in different shapes and sizes to create visual interest.
- Work with small dabs of hot glue to avoid damaging the delicate dried flowers.
- If a flower is too fragile for hot glue, you can use floral adhesive or a low-temperature glue gun.
- Consider the weight of the flowers and place heavier ones towards the bottom of the frame for stability.
- Dried flowers can be fragile, so handle them gently during the process.
- You can customise this project further by adding other decorative elements like buttons, lace, or small wooden embellishments.
- Choose a colour palette for your flowers and ribbon that complements the photo you'll be placing in the frame.
- Let your creativity flow and have fun experimenting with different flower combinations and designs!
