Wheat-sheaf with Everlasting Flowers
Materials:
Dry wheat stalks
Selection of pink everlasting flowers (such as statice, globe amaranth, or strawflowers)
Floral twine or ribbon
Scissors
(Optional) Floral wire
Instructions:
- Gather your materials. Make sure the wheat stalks are dry and brittle-free. Choose a variety of pink everlasting flowers in different shades and textures for visual interest.
- Arrange the wheat stalks. Hold the wheat stalks together at the base, forming a compact bundle. You can create a tighter or looser bundle depending on your preference.
- Secure the bundle. Wrap the floral twine or ribbon securely around the base of the wheat stalks multiple times. Tie a knot to tighten and create a finished look.
- Incorporate the everlasting flowers. Start by tucking the stems of the pink everlasting flowers in between the wheat stalks. Distribute them evenly throughout the wheat-sheaf, aiming for a natural look.
- Arrange for visual appeal. Alternate flower sizes, textures, and shades of pink to create a visually interesting composition. You can use shorter-stemmed flowers towards the centre and taller ones on the outside for a layered effect.
- Secure the flowers (optional). If the everlasting flowers have loose stems or you want extra security, use floral wire to attach the flower stems to the wheat stalks.
- Finishing touches. Fluff out the wheat stalks and everlasting flowers to achieve your desired fullness. You can trim any stems that protrude unevenly from the wheat-sheaf for a neater look.
Tips:
- Choose everlasting flowers in various shades of pink for a more vibrant look.
- Experiment with different flower types and textures to add visual interest.
- Secure the bundle tightly to ensure the wheat-sheaf maintains its shape over time.
- Spritz the everlasting flowers with a light mist of hairspray to preserve their colour and prevent dust accumulation.
